From tales of a baby kangaroo bouncing through the courtroom to the ‘Bikie Wars’ and the Raptor Taskforce, founder and partner Drew Hamilton recently delivered a guest lecture to the students of Newcastle Law School on The Art of Persuasion.
The Criminal Law Practice & Procedure course offered by Newcastle Law School has been designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both the practice and procedure of criminal law at the Local and District Court level. Drew stated, “As a courtroom lawyer the textbook is the science, the art is how you argue these concepts in court.”
The team at Hamilton Janke has a strong history of involvement in the local community and are enthusiastic about contributing to the growth of young lawyers in our region. “We are pleased to be supporting the next generation of criminal defence lawyers in Newcastle”, Drew commented.
With the legal industry overrepresented when it comes to mental health issues, and the team’s commitment to continuing the conversation about mental health and wellbeing, Drew Hamilton reminded students of the importance of self-care by offering valuable strategies for thriving in the role of a Courtroom advocate. Drew said, “It is important that young lawyers are supported in what can be a high-pressure transition to legal practice.”
This follows Hamilton Janke Lawyers being recognised as Leading Criminal Lawyers in the 2021 Doyle’s Guide rankings.
